Lakers Problems Continue Kobe Finally Speaks Out!

CHICAGO – Everyone else on these Los Angeles Lakers had showered, dressed and bundled themselves to march out into the coldest night across the past two winters here. As the clock lurched past midnight in the losing locker room, the team bus gone, Kobe Bryant still wore his purple and gold jersey inside a tiny cubicle.
For some reason, he was holding onto one more night, one more loss, a little longer on Monday. He had marched past the Michael Jordan statue in the United Center, embraced Scottie Pippen courtside and understood he had never been so far away from those six championship banners hanging above him.
One more to go, and yet Monday night had been another cruel installment that Bryant no longer plays on a championship contender, that the parts, the system, the plan, is spiraling deeper and deeper into the abyss. Seven games under .500, four games out of the playoff picture and an unraveling in the final minutes of a 95-83 loss to the Chicago BullsREAD MORE

Battle Of Los Angeles!!

LOS ANGELES -- There have been 127 games between the Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers since the Clips moved to L.A. before the 1984-85 season, and the Lakers have won 97 of them.

However, if you think Friday’s Lakers-Clippers game has a different feel than most of those other matchups, you have good reason. In those 127 games, the Clippers came into the showdown with a better record than their crosstown rival just 14 times, going 3-11 in those games. Even rarer has been a matchup this late into the season with the Clippers doing better than the Lakers when the teams tipped it off. According to Elias Sports Bureau, there have been only four times out of those 127 games that the Clippers had a better record than the Lakers coming into the game when both teams had played 30 or more games entering game day, and the Clippers are just 1-3 in those games.

A New Look... A New Town... One Goal!

Miami's Big Three has been outnumbered.

San Antonio's savvy veterans have been outsmarted.

Oklahoma City's freakish athletes have been . . . well, let's not get ridiculous here.

The Lakers are not a perfect team, nor are they foolproof picks to win the 2013 NBA title just because Dwight Howardnow graces a roster that also includes Kobe BryantPau Gasol and Steve Nash.

But any bet on them to edge out top challengers involves smarter money than it did a few days ago.

RJ Bell of Pregame.com bumped the Lakers ahead of theThunder and into the No. 2 spot in his odds to win the NBA title, trailing only the defending champion HeatREAD MORE

Where Does This New Lakers Roster Measure Up??

I'll Take Two!!

Once again, the United States has a gold medal in Olympic basketball, and the natural order of the roundball world remains intact.

When it was over, Kobe Bryant acknowledged Sunday's game against Spain was his Team USA swan song. "This is it for me," he said. "The other guys are good to go."

It's an exit for Bryant on the international stage (or at least the stage of international competition -- watching his reception in London shows Kobe's career as an international superstar isn't ending anytime soon), where he had a great deal of success. It also foreshadows what's coming, domestically. More than once this summer, Kobe has made reference to playing two or three more years, not necessarily beyond, meaning significant moments like one last gold-medal game are no longer on some distant horizon. His last All-Star Game, his last in the Garden, his last time in front of the home fans, his last playoff game, and so on. READ MORE

You Better Go Back and Watch Some Tape!

Kobe vs. Kyrie for $50k

"Kyrie actually has got some talent, so I entertain that conversation!" Kobe said.  Now that his hand was bitten by the mamba. Guess we have to wait and see what happens...We like his confidence and I'd pay to see that 1-on-1. Perhaps the NBA should entertain more 1-on-1 with superstars. I can see it now, NBA TV presents (insert NBA superstar challenges here) -Russ

Kobe & Co. Say Their Team Is Better Than 92' Dream Team

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Michael Jordan said there's no way Kobe Bryant and this year's USA Olympic basketball team could've beaten the 1992 Dream Team.
Jordan told The Associated Press Thursday that he laughed -- "I absolutely laughed" -- when hearing Bryant's comments that the U.S. squad training in Las Vegas could take Jordan and company. Jordan said there's "no comparison" which team is better.
"For him to compare those two teams is not one of the smarter things he ever could have done," Jordan said prior to playing in a celebrity golf tournament in Charlotte. READ MORE

Once Hated Rivals... Now Deadly Allies

The agitation stayed with Kobe Bryant.
Even six years removed from it all, the Lakers’ star still harbored resentment toward the Phoenix Suns after being eliminating by them in the first round of two consecutive postseasons. So much so that he admits, “I don’t like them.”
The frustration lingered with Steve Nash.
Two regular-season MVP awards and remaining one of the game’s best-ever passers aside, Nash acknowledges his thirst for an NBA championship. Why that hasn’t happened yet partly involves the Lakers, who halted the Suns’ momentum in the 2010 Western Conference semifinals. So as Nash mulled his free-agent options, he conceded a few weeks ago, “It would be hard to put on a Lakers jersey.”
That all changed within the past week. READ MORE

Kobe hits a miracle 3!!! to get a late win over the Nets

LOS ANGELES -- Kobe Bryant's tiebreaking 3-pointer bounced off every available surface, pinballing around the rim and backboard while Staples Center held its collective breath.
Yet the Lakers and Nets all seemed to know exactly where the ball would end up.
Mostly because they know the guy who shot it. READ MORE

Kobe wants Fisher & Odom Back!!

There is a reason players — even elite players — should not get to play general manager, too.
With that thought in mind we bring you this news on the eve of Derek Fisher making his return to Los Angeles as a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder — Kobe Bryant wants him back. And Lamar Odom too, according to Scott Howard-Cooper at NBA.comREAD MORE

Immaturity being seen in Bynum? Bryant doesn't see it that way

Kevin Ding column: Some Lakers observers see immaturity and rebellion in Andrew Bynum now, yet Kobe Bryant sees his kind of ambition that must test established boundaries. ... For the latest news, visit the Lakers blog.

OAKLAND – I asked Kobe Bryant what he thought about Andrew Bynum launching that 3-pointer that got him benched by Lakers coach Mike Brown on Tuesday night. "I think he was testing the limits of his game," Bryant saidREAD MORE
